Medical students act like students, shock horror

Medical Students, like most students enjoy having a good time. After reading this pathetic attempt at an article from the Daily Mail my mind says, so what?

Although the FM would not party quite as hard as some students, the FM certainly drinks some alcohol. Indeed a wonderful night on Friday involved wine, port and beer and trying to pick up an after eight mint from the floor without using hands or knees. It was fun, it was silly, but its what we do.

But at the end of the day, 99.9% of us know that being under the influence of alcohol when dealing with patients or turning up to the wards hungover is unacceptable.

And as one wise daily mail reader pointed out, students have been doing this for a long, long time and will continue to do so.

  1. If you look at other articles by the same journalist, Neil Sears, it is obvious that he is a complete twat.
Don't worry, when I was a med student in the seventies we were exactly the same and from very diverse backgrounds. It did not change much after we qualified and some of us have not changed still.
Some people begrudge anyone having a good time.

  2. The likes of the mail are just trying to make the public think that the medical students or any NHS students infact are getting drunk and whatever else at the expensive of the tax payer, especially now with the tuition fee drama. Ironic really since I don't think the majority of mail readers actually pay tax but I might be splitting hairs there and taking my hatred for the mail a bit too far... tehehehe.

If they saw how hard working medical students are especially, as well as nursing and midwifery students, well, they'd do nothing, they'd still just continue rolling stories like this because thats the kind of country we live in. Sickening.

I've let my hair down this last year with some of the most hard-working people I know; medical students. Our university (an ex polytech) runs the Nursing program and the main Uni runs the Medical. We all work in the same trust and so we have socials, it's a good mix.

I hate seeing stuff like this that disparages the future of the NHS. It's as if they are insinuating this is all the medical students do and will continue to do so during their tenure in the NHS.

  3. Thank you both for your comments, Daily Mail writers are probably just jealous they never had any fun when they were young.
