If you dont want to get sued, go and work in Intensive Care. This is because everyone expects the person to die anyway. I was unaware that research had been done into which speciality faced the most litigation.
Litigation levels are directly proportional to indemnity insurance premiums. The back page of the MDU handbook for private premiums makes scary reading. Especially if you want to be an Obstetrician like I do!
I was informed the risk of litigation for Obs and Gyn was higher than average asmost people dont expect stuff to go wrong, i.e. people expect a healthy new born baby. In intensive care patients are expected to snuff it so relatives are less likely to investigate/sue
